Fly Tying Supplies and Fly Tying Material Suppliers
Below are some of my favorite fly tying materials and the fly tying suppliers I usually buy them from. I have not found one fly shop that can fit all my needs so I end up buying from multiple shops across the USA.
CDC Feathers
CDC (Cul de Canard) are from the feathers that sit above a duck's preen glands and have a natural oil to help keep them waterproof while the duck is in the water. These feathers add a very natural life-like movement to any fly pattern and are becoming extremely popular for various emerger and dun patterns. CDC feathers are available in both natural and dyed colors.Trout Hunter in Last Chance Idaho has the best selection and quality CDC feathers.
Personalized Wood Fly Boxes
This is so cool... your own personalized wood fly boxes! Whether you want these fly boxes for yourself or for a fly fishing fanatic friend you need to check out these personalized fly boxes. I purchased several and I am amazed at what you get for the price of around $15.00. See my photos below, then checkout River Tradition's website.
Hen Capes - Soft Hackle Flies
Finding small, soft hen capes for soft hackles flies is not always easy. Personally, I find Whiting Farms' hen capes too stiff for my liking. So I started using Collins Hen Sets which come with both the hen cape and saddle patch. The hen capes are offered in a variety of natural colors and are available from GreatFeathers.com.
Uni-Stretch Thread
For
bodies on small soft hackle flies the Uni-Stretch thread is easier and faster
to use than floss and looks great too. It comes in an assortment of colors
and lays flat on the hook. It is easy to build tapered bodies on smaller flies.
Also, it can be used as an under body fliller on scuds and other wet fly patterns.
