Trout Fly Fishing Tips and Tools

CDC Feathers
CDC (Cul de Canard) are from the feathers that sit above a duck's preen glands and have a natural oil to help keep them waterproof while the duck is in the water. These feathers add a very natural life-like movement to any fly pattern and are becoming extremely popular for various emerger and dun patterns. CDC feathers are available in both natural and dyed colors.
Side note: I have read the CDC (Cul de Canard) feathers come from the preen gland
(uropygial gland) which is located on the duck´s lower back near the base of
the tail feathers. This is the gland that produces the waterproofing oil substance
to keep the ducks dry. The CDC feathers are supposedly underneath the top feathers
and surround the gland. You can Google "uropygial gland" for more info, I did
that a couple of years ago but don't remember where exactly I read this stuff.
Fly Fishing Gear Reviews
Fly Fishing America magazine has great fly fishing gear reviews and other articles. They have a free digital version on their website.
Firefly Light and Magnifier
This
is a great little addition for those fly fishing in low light or during the
night time hours! It is a magnifier and lighted lamp that clips easily on the
brow of your hat. The magnifier flips up and down. To turn on or off the
LED light just reach up and push the button. Very slick.
Uni-Stretch Thread
For
bodies on small soft hackle flies the Uni-Stretch thread is easier and faster
to use than floss and looks great too. It comes in an assortment of colors
and lays flat on the hook. It is easy to build tapered bodies on smaller flies.
Also, it can be used as an under body fliller on scuds and other wet fly patterns.
